Career Crush: Danielle Moss of The Everygirl – The Lively Show Feature

CareerCrush Logo_IP  While The Everygirl deserves a #careercrush feature in it’s own right,  today focuses my spotlight a little more directly on one of it’s co-founders….even more specifically on a particular feature she was interviewed on.

In re-listening to the The Lively Show with Danielle Moss, I found it all so very relatable – much as The Everygirl. A combination of the best friend you grew up next door to and the warm friendly new kid in class that brings stories and tales of a world outside your own.

In the podcast the conversation focuses on “Finding Your Bliss”  – Danielle touches upon 3 major life changes that made a significant impact :

  1. Moving to a new city (Chicago)
  2. Launching The Everygirl
  3. Discovering/joining Crossfit

I too was 27 when I moved to a new (albeit familiar and filled with some of my closest friends) city – and it wasn’t for the desire of the city itself but for the vulnerability of needing to force change. Similarly,  I know this wont be my forever city but that it was a necessary move and I’m happy for what it offers me for right now.

Her perspective on workouts is also very identifiable (as well as Jess Lively’s)  – about finding that peace when you stop chasing after the skinny and the should-haves, should-dos and find what you enjoy. For her that’s Crossfit. For me it’s spinning. And sometimes yoga. And sometimes running. Each has their own flavor of Kool-Aid. Whether you stick to one flavor or taste a little of each – if it enhances your life than I say drink up (not the real stuff – that’s gross). Find what you like.

I haven’t quite found my version of launching of The Everygirl yet. However, I fully intend to devour all that the site offers to help me figure out exactly what that may be for me. As I enter my last year of my 20s, a year focused on growth, I feel that I’m on that path to making that discovery. Danielle talks about her early 20s being a time of feeling lost and being stressed about feeling lost, while late 20s are about finding who you are, where early 30s is about it all coming together and choosing what you let stress you out – or equally important: what you don’t.  I’m in between that 2nd and 3rd phase and it brings an equal sense of energy and calm.

…Her perspective on being a single 30 year is a good listen as well…

If you’re not familiar with The Lively Show (a relatively new discover for me!), I highly recommend checking out all the podcasts. Same with the The Everygirl!

You can bet that I’ll be back with more #careercrush for and from both of these sources!

Moodboard: Bachelorette Party

Not only is it birthday month but it’s also bachelorette month!  While we donned our best bridal shower attire just a few weeks ago abd thank you cards are already out (the bride-to-be’s pick), it’s now time for the next level of cheers: the bachelorette party!  Bring on the sparkle & bubbly.

Birthday Brunch

Paris may always be a good idea – but so is brunch! After a night on the town, a celebration sweat session what perfect way to bring birthday weekend to an end than brunch.

The options are endless when it comes to putting a brunch fete. Do you stations or bite size? Or a station of bit size treats? Do you do savory or sweet? And don’t forget the drinks! A coffee station is a must for me! But don’t forget about the bloody-marys and mimosas – it is a celebration after all. Something refreshing like a juice bar? Waffles, pancakes, french toast …oh my!….mini quiches, yogurt parfaits and bagels…all to your liking.

Wherever you brunch, here are some looks I’d be happy to wear as I sipped my iced coffee….

Not Afraid to Sweat: Birthday Sweat Sesh

However you celebrated the night before – a birthday sweat sesh come Saturday  is my ideal way to party it up.  My top picks:

1) Spin  – not only am I obsessed on the regular but it seems like SoulCycle would know how to celebrate! On a Boston level – I’ve been eager to try/check out B/Spoke  – I’m feeling their vibe, I think that’s a Kool-Aide I would definitely drink.

Refuel: Post sweat fest, a casual but delicious refuel at Sweetgreens is my pick. And how convenient there’s one near both SoulCycle and B/Spoke

2) I took a “Bags & Beats” class at The Club back in September as part of a #BosFIT event – and loved it! Sure it looks pretty intimidating on the outside (don’t most new fitness classes??) but worth grabbing a friend or few and trying it out. Plus they offer other classes such as yoga and spin.

Refuel: This one is pretty set up for you – Nourish Your Soul is located right at the gym!

3) For something a little more restorative and reflective, it takes little convincing to get me to a yoga class / event. I’m like a proud mama anytime a friend is up for class. I went to a class at Karma Yoga studio for the first time last week with a bestie and it was exactly what I needed. If you’re going the heated route (I’m not) – CorePower Yoga has started popping up in Boston.

Refuel: I’ve been hearing good things about newly opened  Beacon Hill location of Tatte Bakery  – sure to offer the perfect post-yoga treat.

All gear can be found listed here.

Wants & Wishes : Birthday Wishlist

With just under an hour left of my birthday I have to squeeze in a chance to share some of my current wants & wishes ….

Click on the image to learn more / find where to buy

  1. I have yet to pick out what has become my annual birthday bauble.… I think I can find a few options.
  2. Already professing my love of ABD as a #careercrush  – this mug would be the perfect start to my collection as I’m trying to establish that AM lemon water routine.
  3. Sweetgreen – it’s what’s for dinner. Or at least it was for this evening. It brings me back to the made to order salad days of ordered in lunch at the office …. only better #qualityingredients (I foreshadow a #careercrush…..) I struggle with dinners and have a SG location near both of my frequent gym stops/commute home. A gift card would definitely be put to use….just saying…
  4. Another gift card idea – have you heard of ClassPass? Obsessed with the concept (yes, another #careercrush foreshadow…). I have yet to try it out as it’s pricier than my current gym membership but think it’s a great option for trying out the boutique fitness places around town.
  5. I’ve been checking out recent events at General Assembly and am eyeing some upcoming courses – a credit to attend an event or workshop or take a class would be a great idea …plus a little added support to a recipient who is looking to learn & grow.
  6. A print from Inslee is a long running wishlist item …. and have you heard? Daphne is on Instagram as well! I would also take a vacation to anywhere without snow right about now, which Daphne is clearly enjoying.
  7. Nourish Your Soul is a Boston based juice bar – like Sweetgreen salads …it’s just better when someone else makes it. always. However my wallet says that I must by groceries and make things myself so a few green juices would be a welcomed treat (yes for real).
  8. Speaking of healthy treats, birthday cake is out this year as I’m on a non-sugar deal at the moment (not even the natural stuff). However I discovered the magic of cacao and coconut oil that makes chocolate….which I make pretty much nightly.
  9. I have a pair of OTK boots that need to be returned to Zappos (like 4 weeks ago…) and while I’ve spied these Stuart Weitzman 50/50 boots on all.the.bloggers and have gone to pin them each time, they are just a wee bit out of my price range. And by that I mean a lot.
  10. Another I Spy item – I have a growing obsession for draped jackets and sweaters and this one keeps popping up. While I hesitate to stir up the weather gods with the mention of hope of spring … this would be a great option. But I suppose I should move down from my Canadian Goose version of a coat to my light weight puffer first…(coat game is serious – so many levels).

Something to Give: Birthday Cards

Continuing with the birthday month week (today was my boss’) let’s talk birthday cards…

I am the worst at sending/giving birthday cards. Any cards really. Awful really. I pick out cards with great care, careful not to pick a default salutation in fear of it appearing fake…and for it not convey my feels…..

…. and then I don’t give them. My dad’s birthday card? Perfect wording. Two years later it still sits in the pile. B’s card about chocolate cake? I believe that’s 3 years old and I no longer eat cake. A’s card – well does belated count if it’s 4 years after the purchase date?

But here’s the kicker, once I purchase the card and don’t give it to the intended recipient – it can’t go to anyone else….so there it sits. In a pile of orphaned cards hoping one day that it will be sent to it’s rightful owner.

I had a roommate, J, who needed to take stock in cards – cards of all sort. Both in terms of a broad collection at hand and investment in a paper company. Any run to the drugstore, Target or anywhere that sold a form of greeting card endured some time spent perusing. And she sent them! Mailed them near and far – all in a timely manner.

…..I send my friends links, posts and headlines….

My carefully selected sentiments to convey the deepest of feelings  ….. well what good are those if they’re never shared?

And to deepen my shame …. my growing admiration for print and letterpress and the broadening range of messages (some friends need sparkle, some friends need sarcasm).  Below are a few top picks leaning more towards the sparkle spectrum.  Many from a new favorite find : The Society Type

Are you a card giver? What/where is your favorite card source?
